Hour 1: Foundations of Suicide Risk Recognition
- Suicide as a public health issue
- Relevance to chiropractic and musculoskeletal practice
- Common risk factors and protective factors
- Warning signs and red flags identified during history and review of systems
- Suicide risk considerations in patients with chronic pain, concussion, and neurologic conditions
Hour 2: Screening, Response, and Referral
- How to ask about suicide directly, clearly, and safely
- Overview of brief screening tools appropriate for chiropractic practice (e.g., PHQ-9 Item 9)
- Determining level of risk and urgency
- Appropriate clinical responses based on risk tier
- Referral strategies and emergency escalation
- Documentation essentials and professional boundaries
- Case examples and applied clinical decision-making
